Enjoying a long history with sports entertainment, Joel has staged performances at many major Australian venues for a variety of sporting codes.
During his decade-long association with the National Basketball League, he performed and choreographed entertainment at over 150 games, including multiple Grand Finals and the ‘Superdome Slam Dunk Double’ – which holds the NBL’s all-time attendance record.
He was also called upon when US teams played down under – performing alongside the Harlem Globe Trotters on their Australian tour, and choreographing dancers for the AND1 MixTape Tour ‘United Streets Of America’.
Since 2005, Joel has been associated with the NRL – running auditions for various cheer squads, choreographing season launch events and over 100 half time shows. He staged entertainment for the farewell game of football’s highest ever point scorer, Hazem El Masri. The send-off featured 200 dancers and was performed before 74,549 – the largest non-grand final attendance in NRL history.
Joel performed at the official Sydney 2000 Olympics launch events, held at Sydney Town Hall and Parliament House, Canberra. He choreographed cheerleaders for the NRL Grand Final, performed at the Bledisloe Cup launch event, and the NFL American Bowl – Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers (73,811 spectators). He has choreographed NBL season promos for Fox Sports and ABC, and many performances on The Footy Show and Sports Tonight.
