For over a decade Joel has been a critic and columnist for Australia’s premier dance publication, Dancetrain magazine, where he chats with major international talents & industry colleagues.
The March 2011 edition featured his cover story – a discussion with the director, choreographers and cast of the film, ‘Burlesque’. Previous issues have featured his Q&A’s with the cast and crew of ‘Dreamgirls’, ‘Rize’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘You Got Served’ and ‘Step Up’. The July 2006 issue featured his cover story with the cast of the film adaptation of ‘Rent’.
Upon the death of Michael Jackson, Joel pulled together a world exclusive where he interviewed all of Jackson’s key choreographers from the past 3 decades – those responsible for his greatest videos; ‘Smooth Criminal’, ‘Black Or White’, ‘Ghosts’ and ‘Scream’, and his stage performances; the Super Bowl half-time, the ‘Bad’, ‘Dangerous’ and ‘History’ tours, and ‘This Is It’.
In 2012, Dancetrain celebrated its 10th anniversary. Joel says, “I feel privileged to be a part of something that motivates, educates and celebrates dancers!”
Opportunities quickly arose for Joel to write pieces for other national publications, websites and industry publications. His cover stories, features and reviews have been syndicated internationally. Joel has also been a contributor to DanceLife.com.au – a leading online dance resource.
